Quinn James

I’m an Honours Economics student at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Lazaridis School of Business and Economics. I enjoy understanding how businesses and markets work, and using evidence to think through economic and financial questions.

Personal investing is an interest I pursue outside the classroom. I research company earnings, competitive positioning and valuation, then consider those findings alongside sector and macroeconomic developments. I document my investment reasoning and revisit it as new information changes the thesis. Excel helps me organize portfolio information, allocation plans and the economic data I follow.

My economics coursework has given that interest a more structured foundation. In EC395 Applied Econometrics, I worked with classmates on a cigarette-demand project using Stata to compare regression approaches. The project reinforced the importance of examining assumptions and understanding what the evidence can support before drawing a conclusion.

I also enjoy building tools that solve problems in my own life. I created AcademiaTrack, FlowState and Quinn’s Investment System through AI-assisted development, defining the requirements, workflows, analytical logic and interface decisions, then using AI tools to help implement, test and refine them. Using these systems for university work, daily planning and investment research gives me a practical reason to keep improving them.

I approach analytical work by defining the question, identifying the relevant evidence and assumptions, and building a structured way to evaluate it. I’m interested in applying that approach in finance, economics, investment analysis, research, government and policy, and related analytical roles.

Outside academics and work, I go to the gym regularly. I grew up playing hockey and soccer, and staying active remains part of my routine.
